a different kind of holiday
most of my year end school holiday were spent preparing for guiding camps.
painting banners, building towers and sculptures, burning the midnight oil to plan dance and then practice them.
Jota, EYTC , CHCHS's camp, CTC and Traplex.
although i've been to different camps, the competitons and rules differ slightly, and i worked with different people, the things i do was routine.
day in day out, we go to someone's place, the so called meetings were never ending..
and we stayed overnight, joked and then strived hard to finish the preparation.
and by the time the camps ended, our 2 months long holiday were gone too.
while for post stpm and spm days, i stayed at home watched tv, online and most of the time, hang out with friends.
didnt work after spm, went to a camp in MMU, then a trip to hongkong, came back, let myself rot at home, online(i was new to internet back then) , go out yam cha, played a bit of basketball. the holiday lasted for 6 months. by the time it almost ended, i couldnt wait for form 6 to start. i was bored to death.
post stpm days, worked for 5 weekends, couldnt take it and quitted. went out more, more late night outs, started to play a bit of pool this time and learned yoga!and when it was time to leave for university, all i wanted to do was linger in penang. i didnt want the holiday to end.
maybe subconsciously, i knew that was the last time i could be so carefree??
back to the topic of the post,
and now that i am in university now, the longest holiday will last for a month plus.
max is for a month and a few days:(
so i've been to every major mall in penang.
two very lengthy karaoke sessions,
played piano for quite a bit which is unusual..
i can play simple arrangements of canon in D
and a few new songs.
also, did a bit of reading these few days.
to be exact, i read two books.
amy tan's the bonesetter's daughther and michael connelly's the lincoln lawyer
two totally different genre.
my friend highly recommend me amy tan so i read it.
this is her first book that i've read
and it's pretty good. a lot of background on old china.
but i like the second one better.
i kept reading till the end.
and i think i spent4 or 5 hours on it.
a lot of suspense here and there.
it was a very very long time ago since i read fiction. about half a year perhaps??
it's amazing how long i can read a fiction book and not even last an hour when it comes to academics stuff:P
having read the two, i think my reading speed has deteriorated.
and so is my english.
maybe it's becoz i read too much in a short time for the exam??
the lecture notes are all given in point forms and also, i seldom read or refer to books since i dont have enough time to do so:P
i'm thinking of indulging myself with a few james patterson's books.
have been eyeing maximum ride for quite some time.
just that i used to to think it was more worthy to splurge on clothes than books.
same applies to medical books.
that is why i have much fewer books and more clothes to pack compared to my roommates.
and since i wont be able to go to korea this july coz there's no more places left for juniors,
i can spend the money that's suppose to go to the trip.
i'm super depressed coz i wont be able to meet up with people from taiwan:(
no more trip around korea as promised by chris.
he's from korea and promised to drive us around seoul!!!
and in seoul they can watch tv from their cellphone!
and i was planning to backpack around korea with leo.
all the plans gone down the drain:(
most of all, i dont get the chance to skip boring lectures legally
and have fun and meet interesting people.
and there was nothing i could find to replace that trip in prangin mall.
i'll try gurney again next week.
maybe a few good books can take my mind off the matter.:(
reading can be therapeutic if no memorizing is required.
sure hope that applies in this case.
think i'm going to eat more banana.
it's said to cheer people up coz it contains tryptophan.the good thing is, it's not very fattening:)
but not sure whether that's true.
if it's not, i'll turn to ice cream and chocolates. that always work.:)
