Sunday Morning

Technically, it's already afternoon.
But I woke up to a great weather coz it rained last night.:)

My thoughts are filled with plans for my upcoming holidays if I pass my exam, and none for the two case that i'm suppose to write, or the forensic report that i procrastinated for 6 months.
Old habits are difficult to kill

Slim River, again

This time around, the place was not as insufferable. Truth to be told, it is actually a good retreat for me. I finally get to catch some sleep.
Having a specialist there, especially a kind one and more than 10 patients a day at Slim River made so much difference!!
The days seemed to pass faster, the same old house seemed more tolerable and there seemed to be less cockroaches around the house or maybe it's from the contribution from previous group staying in that house.(cleaning the dust and the cockroaches). Therefore, I snack less often because my mood is better.

The pace there is slower as compared to HUKM. We go to ward rounds and then clinic. By noon, we can return to hostel.
Despite the slow pace of the place, the place was not short of obstetrics emergencies. There was TWO RED ALERTS activated in two subsequent days. Or maybe because it's such a small place, we were aware of everything that was going on in that place. Sadly, we were not there during the emergency because it was after office hours. We were actually in the hospital during the second red alert, which occured like 10 minutes after I left to clerk a patient.

One was cord prolapse and another shoulder dystocia. The first baby did not do so well post-partum but fortunately for the second baby, she's currently well with no complications although doctor suspected brachial plexus injury initially. (Baby was not moving her/his left/right arm).

Though the weather was much warmer and the wards were not air-conditioned and I had to attend ward rounds every morning ( actually, I go to the wards earlier all thanks to my two roomies who have no problem waking up early in the morning) and the clinics are not as exciting, it's much better than what I expected.

So for those who said HSR is a nice place, I do agree with you all to a certain extent. But that only applies to ObGyn posting.

Although ZT said she did less things there as compared to HUKM, it's very different for me.
I actually palpated more abdomen in a day than what I did in HUKM, and I can focus more on completing my case write up, albeit not much.

Nonetheless, my plan to complete cwu before leaving HUKM was not accomplished with not much surprise. Therefore, I didn't do much studying this week, meaning I have to cram everything on ObGyn in the next week. Wish me lots of luck.

As tiring as it had been

It had been an exciting week.

Assisted in two C-sections on Thursday.
Not my first time but the doctor was so kind to perform it at a slower rate so I can see everything clearly.
The first C-section:
We knew it was a macrosomic baby (mother had Type II DM and there was also presence of polyhydramnios) with estimated fetal weight of 4.3 kg on ultrasound scan but when we pulled the baby out, it was a boy weighing 4.96kg!
-_____-''' I remembered that I was so amazed by a mother who managed to deliver a 4kg baby vaginally 2 years ago.

The second C-section was a breech with polyhydramnios and again I had to stabilize the fetus. My hands ached so much after that.

And I probably did more VE in the last one week more than I had in the 8 weeks rotation in 3rd year.

I think I don't dislike ObGyn that much anymore.:)

:)

After a long day at the hospital, receiving a call from a dear friend who is equally busy was a pleasant surprise.
I guess I am not aware of how engrossed I was with ward works.
Thanks for calling and brighten my day!

XOXO
